"Helping Others Grow"

Each winter the Morgan County Cooperative Extension Service conducts a Master Gardener Training Program. Class participants meet for three hours once a week for ten weeks and learn about various topics regarding horticulture. Classes in the 2000 program included Plant Science, Annuals and Perennials, Organic Methods, Plant Problem Diagnosis, Lawn Care, Ornamental Trees and Shrubs, Sprayer Calibration and Composting, Herbs, Landscaping, and Vegetables. The coursework includes weekly quizzes and a final exam. Upon completion of the coursework with a passing grade, class members can become certified Master Gardeners by completing 30 hours of community volunteer work in the area of horticulture. They can also join the Morgan County Master Gardener Association and participate in club activities.
